In moving from being an individual contributor to leading a technical endeavor, engineers on the technical path face their hardest challenge. Why? Simply put you have become so use to being evaluated on what you do. You wonder “How am I contributing if I am no longer doing all the work?” Engineers successful with this shift can contribute to complex projects and advanced technology by focusing on the higher technical deliverable. The reliance upon a team requires a different mindset. You need to other engineers grow by stumbling over the same stones that tripped you up. By letting go of doing all the work you can more easily extend your work scope and often your influence. Moving from contributor to leader requires building the underlying skills that bolster your ability to effectively deliver technology and solutions and to lead others in accomplishing team efforts.
